UW 2008 Football Schedule

February 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment

There is no off-season in football. As Cowherd says, there’s ‘football’ season and there’s ‘waiting for football’ season. While we wait (and look forward to Spring ball), here’s a look at the upcoming season.

HSN football schedule 2008

At first glance, I see 7 potential wins on this schedule. (Oregon, Stanford, Arizona, Oregon State, Notre Dame, UCLA and Washington State). The Oregon game will be tough, but they’ll be starting a unproven QB. The Oklahoma game has potential upset written all over it, but I’m not ready to say we’ll get that one done.

Let me know what you think about the 2008 schedule.

Horizon Air Extreme Makeover: Move That Husky Painted Plane!

Back in December, Horizon Air announced that they would be painting four of their planes in honor of Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, and Washington State. At that point, they only had this artist’s rendering of the four planes:

Yesterday, Rob Moseley, of Eugene’s The Register-Guard, posted a sneak peek photo of UW’s plane at Sea-Tac while covering Ducks’ Women’s Hoops in Seattle.

Today, however, we now have footage of the Washington plane being painted (compliments of Horizon Air) :

The Inbound Pass Heard Around The Sports World

February 11th, 2008 · No Comments

You remember when you would play H-O-R-S-E as a kid and you would make a shot, but it went in as either a swish or a bank shot? But you didn’t call swish or bank shot. So, you and your friend stood around kind of looking at each other, internally debating the legal ramifications of unintentionally making a specified kind of shot.

Well, that’s kind of how I felt when I saw Tim Morris bounce that inbound pass off UCLA’s Alfred Aboya. I thought it was legal, but I didn’t know what that really meant. And I kind of think the game officials were thinking the same thing.

Watching really boring games, I had thought of that play before and wondered why no one did it.Well, now I know why no one has done it. As soon as someone did, it ends up on ESPN’s “Pardon The Interruption” (Hasn’t the Pac-10 been on PTI an awful lot these football and basketball seasons?).

What’s interesting is that one of the commentators notes that is was a “smart play,” considering the Huskies didn’t have any timeouts left. He (Marques Johnson?) also notes that it was his “only option”.If there are no consequences to this play, that will establish an interesting precedent. And it will make for very interesting inbound pass plays to come.

Honestly, I think it’s going to be tough for them to rule that play was illegal. However, I would not be surprised to see this incident be the catalyst for a rule making this play illegal.

Pardon the ball off your face?
